How to check whether a public story has expired
Stories are the format most likely to create confusion because they disappear on their own. If a story was visible earlier but not now, the most likely explanation is simply that the 24-hour window has ended rather than that the viewer stopped working.
Stories are temporary by design, so disappearance alone is not a strong sign of a technical failure. If everything else on the profile still looks normal, expiration is usually the first explanation to test before looking for a bug.
A useful check is timing. If the account has newer public activity but the specific story is gone, that often points to the story window ending normally. If there is no newer activity at all, then the story may simply have aged out without replacement.
This distinction helps users report issues more clearly. Saying that a story vanished after a specific time window is more actionable than saying the viewer failed, because it separates normal content expiry from an actual loading or rendering problem.
